How To Make Tennis Elbow Braces
Learning how to make tennis elbow braces is relatively simple. Tennis elbow is the condition where the joints and connective tissue near the elbow become enflamed because of a tear or irritation. The key to making a proper tennis elbow brace is to make sure you provide adequate support for the damaged area near the elbow. The easiest way to support your elbow is simply to buy a tennis elbow brace from any sporting goods store, but you don't want to do simple, do you? You want to make our own tennis elbow brace.
What you need:
- 2 ACE bandages
- Cotton gauze
- Shoe string
- Tape
- A friend
- The cotton gauze. You're going to need help to make your tennis elbow brace. The first thing you need to do is position your elbow so that it's in the least amount of pain. Have your buddy position a nice amount of cotton gauze around the elbow. Make sure to leave an opening for the elbow to breathe. Basically, you'll be surrounding the elbow on all sides with a lot of cotton gauze. Put some of the cotton gauze on the fold in your arm opposite the elbow. Lightly tape the gauze into place.
- The ACE bandage. Wrap your arm from about mid-forearm to mid-bicep with the first ACE bandage. Remember to leave an opening for the elbow to stick out of the wrapping. It's also important not to wrap your arm to tightly or you'll cut off your circulation. Wrap the second ACE bandage around your arm, concentrating more on the damaged area of your arm near the elbow. Don't wrap this too tight either. Use the little metal fasteners to keep the bandages in place.
- The shoe string. Here's the last step to your tennis elbow brace. Wrap the shoe string around your neck and around your forearm to support your arm. Adjust the shoe string so your arm is comfortable. Make sure the string doesn't dig into your neck or arm too much by padding the string with cotton gauze and tape.
